Robin Williams' wife Marsha Garces Williams files for Divorce

Robin Williams' second wife has filed for divorce from the US actor after nearly 19 years of marriage. Marsha Garces Williams filed the papers at a San Francisco court, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple, who married in 1989, have been separated since December and have two children together. The pair met when she worked as a nanny for Williams' son Zachary, whom the actor had with his previous wife, Valerie Valardi and had two Children together.

According to the legal documents, Marsha, who produced Robin’s films Mrs Doubtfire and Patch Adams, wants legal joint custody of Cody - the boy will live with her and Robin will have visitation - and an undisclosed amount of spousal support. Marsha has also requested that Robin be made responsible for her legal fees during the divorce proceedings and that all community property be divided between them once their assets have been tallied.

Robin Williams rose to fame in the 1970s playing the comic space alien Mork in hit US TV show Mork and Mindy. In 1998 he won an Oscar for best supporting actor playing a psychologist in the film Good Will Hunting. Robin has been nominated three times for the best actor Academy Award for his roles in Good Morning, Vietnam, Dead Poets Society and The Fisher King.

Robin’s spokesperson has confirmed the split but refused to go into any further detail regarding the cause of the separation. The couple’s marriage was rumoured to have been in trouble before Robin checked himself into rehab in 2006 for help with his alcoholism.
