Sen. Hillary Clinton's former campaign manager could end up working for Sen. Barack Obama in a potential general election campaign.
Patti Solis Doyle, a longtime aide whose tenure with the former first lady goes back to Bill Clinton's first presidential bid in 1992, left the Clinton campaign in early February. Her departure was part of a leadership shakeup after Clinton struggled to raise money and fell short of an early goal of wrapping up the Democratic nomination on Feb. 5.
David Axelrod, Obama's top strategist, said he has talked to Solis Doyle throughout the campaign, as he has with Clinton's communications director Howard Wolfson. She is a Chicago native and sister of Ald. Danny Solis (25th).
"She's been great friend of mine for 20 years," Axelrod said. "I talked to her throughout the campaign, as I have with Howard and others. She said she would be happy to help if we are the nominee, and I said that would be great. Period. End of non-story."
