Brangelina Juniors - Brad and Angelina Jolie Twins Born by Caesarean

Angelina Jolie gave birth to twins - a boy and a girl - at a clinic in France late yesterday.

Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline were born by caesarean. The doctor says they are doing well.

The twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, were born shortly before 8:00 pm (1800 GMT) on Saturday, the paper said quoting gynaecologist Michel Sussmann.

The insatiable cravings for pictures of celebrity babies confound me. Newborns -- no matter their genetic bounties -- look like lumps with nostrils.

Still, that hasn't stopped the celeb rags from fighting over exclusive photos of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's soon-to-be-born twins. According to some, the bidding is up to $16 million. (And rumor has it that tabs will go as high as $20 million.) There is one restriction though: The couple reportedly hates to be known for their mash-up moniker "Brangelina" and will not allow it to be used with published photos.

My past post that criticized J.Lo for pocketing money for her baby pictures summoned a lot of flack. But I stand by my stance. Selling pics of your babies, while grousing about the paparazzi, is like buying a dozen Hummers and joining Greenpeace. Most likely, Jolie and Pitt will donate their loot to charity.

Oh, and don't expect shots of Jolie in labor. Reports state that the hospital in France, where she will give birth, has treated its windows with paparazzi proof coating to prevent snaps.

They are dubbed the golden couple of Hollywood but Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have a complete cast in the making after the birth of the 'Brangelina' twins at a hospital in southern France last night.

Actress Jolie, 33, had the twins by caesarean section at the Lenval hospital on the Promenade des Anglais waterfront drive in Nice, with partner Pitt, the babies’ father, believed to be in attendance.

The newly-arrived girl and boy, named Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon, mean the couple now have a total of six children.

Exclusive rights to the first photographs of the babies have been sold for $11million to an unnamed US magazine, reported the newspaper Nice Matin, which added that the couple intend to give the money to charity. After the couple’s first child, Shiloh, was born in Namibia in 2006, worldwide photographic rights were sold to People Magazine for between $5-7million.

Jolie’s doctor, Michel Sussman, confirmed that the operation had been brought forward "for medical reasons", but said: “The parents and the babies are in excellent health. Everything is fine.”

The couple, who first announced their relationship in 2005 after acting together in the film Mr and Mrs Smith, have four other children. Two-year-old daughter Shiloh is their natural child, while Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3, were adopted from Cambodia, Vietnam, and Ethiopia respectively.

Vivienne Marcheline may have been named after Jolie's mother, the actress Marcheline Bertrand, who died in January last year after a seven-and-a-half year battle with cancer.
