Brangelina Twins - Magazine Pictures Doctored

A New York-based publication has accused People magazine of altering its cover image of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's twins to make it appear as if one of the newborns is smiling.

New York Magazine says the cover of People - the first American publication to run official photos of newborn twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon - says the cover could have been Photoshopped.

It claims Vivienne appears to be smiling widely, or even laughing, something it says a three-week-old baby isn't capable of.

"Parenting magazine says that babies don't smile from exterior stimulation until two to four months - even if said exterior stimulation is the most beautiful pair of humans in the entire world," NY Magazine said.

The mag claims the logical explanation for Vivienne's ability to smile is that the twins were born earlier than reported, or Pitt and Jolie are lying about the age of the twins.

People, who has not responded to NY Magazine's claims, reportedly paid US$14 million for exclusive rights to the photos.

It ran a 19-page spread of the snaps in this week's issue, and Jolie was quoted as saying that the couple's family life at a sprawling French chateau was "chaos, but we are managing it and having a wonderful time".

She gave birth to the twins in the French city of Nice. Hordes of paparazzi waited out the process, but were unable to penetrate the hospital's heavy security.

The shoot was conducted by photo agency Getty Images, with People acquiring North American rights to the photos, and British gossip magazine Hello! all other territories.

The Pitts have said they will donate the proceeds to charity.
