It's a sad day for romantics everywhere: 82-year-old Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner has broken up with his No. 1 girlfriend of seven years, 28-year-old Holly Madison. Dreams around the globe shattered last night when Madison, asked by a TMZ cameraman whether she could get him into the Playboy mansion's legendary Halloween party, said, "I have no pull anymore. Hef and I aren't together."
Say it ain't so! We haven't felt this broken-hearted since the first time we watched The Notebook.
The breakup has been something of an open secret for weeks now, with rumours circling that Madison had left Hefner for creepy illusionist Cris Angel. Hefner himself revealed to Us Weekly last month that his relationship with the bottle blonde was "in transition."
"I love her very much, but you know, she wants very much to get married and have children. That isn't very much in the cards for me," he said. "So there has to be a certain reality there."
The reality is that Hefner was never going to remarry after going through two failed marriages - especially since he is technically still married to second wife Kimberley Conrad, although they have been separated since 1999. Still, judging by the constant marriage hints Madison gave Hefner on their E! reality show, The Girls Next Door, it's safe to say she finally realized it's impossible to change a tiger's old, creepy, polyamorous stripes.
Some of our more naïve readers may assume that this means Holly Madison is leaving The Girls Next Door, and to this we say: aw, we remember when we thought logic dictated the terms of reality TV, too. No, the surgically-enhanced beauty also told TMZ last night that she and Hefner's other two girlfriends, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson, are still filming things together for the show's sixth season.
"We're having fun," Holly Madison said. "It's going to be even better. We love season five, but I think every season gets better."
Oh, yes, and we're sure it has nothing to do with getting more money for each successive season, either.
